Biography

Cyrus Bryant Hodge 1841 Barnstaple, He advertised as a tailor and outfitter in 1867, and married Susan Hancock that year.. In 1871 Cyrus 36 was a draper and tailor employing four men and one woman, and living at 73 High Street Barnstaple with wife Susan Hancock 32 from Crediton, Alfred E 3, Thomas H 2 months, Ann Hodge his mother 64, Thomas S 38 his brother, a servant and an apprentice. Susan was the daughter of Joseph Hancock and Elizabeth Fisher. In 1881 Cyrus 40 was a tailor and woollen draper living at 73 High Street with Susan 42, Gertrude U 8, William B7, George H 4, a servant and a family of lodgers. In 1891 Cyrus 50 was a tailor and outfitter living at 73 High Street Barnstaple with Susan 52, Thomas H 20, George H 14, a boarder and a servant. Cyrus died 25 Dec 1894 at Pulcrass street, Barnstaple, and late of 73 High street, buried 1894 Holy Trinity, Barnstaple aged 53 [North Devon Journal, 27 Dec 1894] and Susan on 15 Jan 1926 at Lochlea, Holland Road, Minzenberg, South Africa in her 89th year, daughter of Mrs George Elliott of Minzenberg.
