Biography

Philadelphia was born in London on the 5 June 1796 and christened on the 1 May 1796 in 1796 at St Katherine by the Tower, London, England. ^[1] Her parents are listed as Richard Hodges and Ann Hodges. ^[2].

She married John Johnston, a soldier on the 23 April 1816 at The Castle, Cape Town, South Africa.

On the 26 January 1818 they christen their som James William Johnston and are listed as living at the Red Lion Street, Woolwich, Kent, England.

By 1841 they have moved to where her husband came from and according to the census they are living at East Bowes, St Cyrus, Kincardineshire, Scotland. Sadly John goes missing and is registered dead about the 6 September 1841 place of death unknown.

Philadelphia moves her family to Roadside, St Cyrus by 1851 and 1861 she and her family are living at Turnpike Road, St Cyrus.
