Biography

John F. Hodgins was born in November 1865 in St. Mary's parish, York County, New Brunswick, Canada. He was the son of William and Sarah Eliza (Ross) Hodgins. His mother Sarah Eliza was born in Scotland.

Vital data were reported in the 1900 U.S. Federal Census (Brewer, Maine), including information about John's mother, since she was living in Brewer with her son in 1900 and identified within his household as "mother." John is enumerated at 6 years old in the 1871 Census of Canada; age 15 in the 1881 Census of Canada; and age 25 in the 1891 Census of Canada).

John immigrated to Maine, USA, from New Brunswick sometime between 1891-1895. He married Margaret A. Hayes in 1895 and resided in Brewer, Penobscot, Maine where they raised their family. Their residence and children are enumerated in the 1900, 1910, and 1920 U.S. Federal Censuses. They include: William J. (b. Mar. 1896); Annie M. (b. Aug. 1897); Eliza "Nellie" H. (b. June 1899); Charles R.; Elizabeth M.; Harriet E.; John F.; Edward J.; Daniel R.; and George T.

John died in Brewer in 1947 where he is buried at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Brewer.
