Biography

William son of William Hodgkinson and Ann Pidcock was born on 27 October and christened at Darley, Derbyshire, on 25 December 1808.[1]

William married Ann Martin on 20 September 1830 in North Wingfield, Derbyshire.[2]

In the 1841 census he was a farmer at Tupton Moor, Derbyshire, with family Ann (36), William (7), Robert (6), Joseph (5) and Eliza (2).[3]

In 1851 he was a farmer of 78 acres at Tupton with wife Ann (48), sons William (17), Robert (15) and Joseph (13), and daughters Eliza (11) and Emma (9).[4]

In the 1861 census he was a farmer of 33 acres at Press, Ashover, Derbyshire, with wife Ann (59, born Tupton), daughters Eliza and Emma (21 and 19, both born Tupton) and grandson Joseph Hodgkinson (3, born Hyson Green, Nottingham).[5]

In the 1871 census he was still at Press, a widower with his married daughter Eliza Gascoyne and her family and grandson Joseph Hodgkinson.[6]

By the 1881 census he had remarried, and was a farmer of 10 acres living at Kelstedge, Ashover, with his wife Jane (50, born Wingerworth).[7]

William Hodgkinson of Brampton aged 82 was buried at Ashover on 15 November 1890.[8]
