Obituary.
JOHN HODGSON, AGED 81. At his late home, Hurstville, on the evening of Friday last, April 4th, an old identity of Bowral, in the person of Mr. John Hodgson, passed peacefully to his eternal rest, after an illness of comparatively short duration, at the age of 81. On Easter Monday he attended the show at the Agricultural grounds, but on Tuesday night was seized with severe pains caused, by inflammation of the bowels. All that medical skill could do, and loving, tender nursing by his wife and daughter, Mrs. Ferguson, was done for him, but he died peacefully, on the Friday night, in the presence of several members of his family. On Sunday the funeral took place at Rookwood. Amongst those assembled around the grave were his widow, Mrs. Hodgson, Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Hodgson (son and daughter-in-law), Mr. and. Mrs. Wallace (son-in-law and daughter), Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Ferguson, Robertson (son- in-law and daughter), Mr. and Mrs. Leitz, (Stanmore), Mr. P. Ferguson, Mr. Geo. M. Pugh, North Sydney (late of Bowral), and many old personal friends of the deceased. The officiating minister was the Rev. Mr. Warden of the Tabernacle, Enmore, who in a short address spoke of the earnest Christian work performed by Mr. Hodgson in his early days, and mentioned that although his ideas in later days had changed, through earnest conviction that he had received more light, he was certain that deceased died as a good genuine Christian, who had devoted his life to doing good according, to his light, and exhorted those present to lead a life of earnestuess, and through Christ to lay hold of eternal life. Mr. Hodgson was for many, years identified with Bowral, having been an alderman on several occasions. He took a more than ordinary interest in the development of the town. In all his work he was thorough and conscientious, actuated by one impulse alone—to do right in the sight of his God. To his bereaved widow and family we beg to extend our sympathy, and not ours only, but that of the residents of Bowral.
