Francis was born in Rawcliffe, Yorkshire, England, and was baptised there in 1814. He was the son of Joseph Hodgson (an apothecary) and Harriet Morley.[1]
In 1844 Francis married Eleanor Tomlinson in Bubwith, Yorkshire. Both lived in Spaldington.[2][3] By 1851 the family had settled in Portington, Yorkshire.[4] In 1861 Francis farmed "360 acres employing 26 labourers and three boys."[5][6]
By 1881 Francis had retired from farming and the family had moved to the city of York.[7][8]
"1894. HODGSON Francis Morley of Heworth green York gentleman died 3 Mar 1894 Probate York 14 Apr to Eleanor Hodgson widow John West Hodgson gentleman and James Hodgson farmer Effects £29432 8s. 8d."[10]
