She was 27 years old when she married Alexander Dunbar Sutherland on the 5 May 1887. He was 11 years older, aged 38. [2]

Catherine died on the 20 September 1934 in Riccarton, Canterbury. She was 75 years old. [4]
SUTHERLAND - On September 20th 1934, at 11 DiIworth street, Riccarton. Catherine, the beloved mother of Mrs Len. Orchard. Linwood, Mrs H. S. Mason. Timaru. and Mr Seymour Sutherland, Woolston: aged 75 years.[5]
She was buried in the Bromley Cemetery on the 22 September 1934. Her grave is in Block 13, Plot 382. Her sister Sarah Lennox Hodgson was buried in the same grave in May 1941. [6]
