Born in Nebraska in 1886, John Charles Hodson (who went by "Charles" or "Charley" and later changed his name to Charles John Hodson), came to Amboy, Indiana with his family in 1893. In the summer of 1907, Charles, a member of the Amboy Band, invited Dora Sharp to attend a band picnic. They had a nice time and saw each other often. They were married on June 14, 1910. They established a home in Amboy. Charles taught school and their sons were born there. In 1913, Charles and Dora and their sons moved to Dora's father's farm in Clinton County, where they became farmers and their daughter was born. Together they worked the farm for the next 24 years until Charles' rather sudden death in 1937 after a brief illness.
