Brevet Major William Stephen Raikes Hodson (1821 – 1858) was a British commander of 'Hodson's Horse', a cavalry regiment of the British Indian Army during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. He was known as 'Hodson of Hodson's Horse'.
He was the third son of George Hodson and Mary Stephen.
He married Susan Anette Mitford, daughter of Capt C Henry, RN and widow of John Mitford of Exbury, at Calcutta Cathedral on 5 January 1852, They had a daughter, Olivia, in 1853 but she died in July 1854.
He was shot and died at Lucknow, during an attack on the Begum's palace, on 11 March 1858. He was buried in the garden of La Martiniere Lucknow the following day. His grave is still located in the grounds of La Martiniere College and bears the inscription 'Here lies all that could die of William Stephen Raikes Hodson'.
