Biography

Born in Edingen Germany, emigrated to U.S.^[1] Find-A-Grave shows his two wives Emma and Bertha but misses details, and has a different last name for Bertha^[2] (perhaps she remarried).

According to Ancestors and Descendants of Michael Hoerauf^[3], he first married Bertha Lehner and had three children. In 1910 he traveled back to Germany with his parents, and then returned to the U.S. on the ship Prinz Wilhelm. They brought back Emma Louise Boell, possibly as a nanny for his three children. While he was gone, his wife left, taking the children with her to New York. He then married Emma, and had two more children. Bertha and two children died, daughter Clara came back to live with him. Emma was committed to the state hospital in late 1920. After he died in a car accident in 1921, their two children were raised by their aunt and uncle, Jacob and Christina Hoerauf.
