Biography

Hanss Michel was christened on 26 Oct 1663 in Steinheim/Murr (OA. Marbach), Württemberg (now Germany). He was probably born earlier that year. He and his future wife were christened on the same day in the same church!

Hanß Michel is the son of Georg Hörold and Anna Magdalena.[1]

He and Margaretha Klein were married on 8 Feb. 1687 or 1688 in Steinheim am der Murr, Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, Baden-Württemberg, an historic region of Prussia/Germany. From church records, their children included:

  • George Christopher Hoeroldt (1688-1749)
  • Hanss Melchoir Hoeroldt (1690-1693)
  • Hanss Michel Hoeroldt (1691-1697)
  • Anna Dorothea Hoeroldt (1693-1710)
  • Anna Barbara Hoeroldt (1696-1710)

Died when he was only 30 years old.
1693 was the year the French retreated from the Palatinate, burning towns as they went, which makes us wonder if Michael's death was because of this fire.

Marbach, a town just south of Steinheim, was destroyed by the French in 1693: “Marpach, a small town situate in a pleasant valley on the river Neckar, with, a little below it, receives the Murr…How it came to the counts of Wurtemberg is not certainly known. But it was a part of their dominions for early as the beginning of the 14th century. In 1546 it suffered greatly from the Spaniards; in 1642 it was twice plundered, in 1693 it was burnt by the French, and in 1745, greatly damaged by a storm, as was also the whole country round it. This district has excelllent vineyards, meadows, and corn-land.”
