I was born at the Brooklyn Hospital on DeKalb ave. in the Fort Green section of Brooklyn that borders Downtown Brooklyn. It was my mothers choice of hospitals even though others were close by. Downtown Brooklyn was a great place to have grown up in the 1950s/60s, it had it's problems but it still was great. Downtown was my mothers and her mothers birth place, their memories were when the neighborhood was largely Irish. One thing about growing up downtown was you were just train stop from Manhattan, but we didn't have to go to Manhattan unless you had to, we had the Department Stores, five movie theaters, the Brooklyn Promenade in the Heights where we had a million dollar view of NYC, The harbor, Statue Of Liberty and sunset over New Jersey.

While living in Brooklyn during 1951-1985 I witnessed many things, the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963 and was told about it in my Junior High School. The NYC Transit strikes, Sanitation strike, Blackouts, Racial riots, Son of Sam, MLK & Robert Kennedy being killed, Cuban Missile Crisis, The Brooklyn Dodgers leaving Brooklyn for L.A., a new team forming the N.Y. Mets, 1961 N.Y. Yankees with Mantle, Maris, Berra, Ford. Transistor radios, N.Y Jets with Joe Namath, the Moon landing, 15cent pizza, 15cent transit fare.

Growing up I was influence by music as all were but living in NYC it was the center of everything, I heard country & bluegrass from an older sibling and Doo Wop Rock n Roll from another. Big fan of 60s British invasion rock, Motown, Southern rock, Blues, and then mostly Reggae.

Physical Characteristic: Born with Single Transverse Palmar Crease aka Simian Crease on both palms.

I have taken three DNA tests with Ethnicity Estimates:

  1. 1. MyHeritage:

57.4% Irish, Scottish, and Welsh, 22.0% Scandinavian, 2.9% Greek and South Italian, 1.5% Italian, 5.8% Middle Eastern, 4.6% Nigerian, 1.6% Sierra Leonean, 4.2% South Asian.

  1. 2. 23&Me:

Neanderthal Ancestry: 205 Variants, Maternal Haplogroup H, Paternal Haplogroup I-P109 a subgroup of Haplogroup I-M253.

87.6% British & Irish, 3.2% Angolan & Congolese, 1.6% Ghanaian, Liberian & Sierra Leonean, 1.3% Spanish & Portuguese, 1.3% Senegambian & Guinean, 0.7% Italian, 0.3% Southern Indian & Sri Lankan, 0.2% Indigenous American, 0.2% Iranian, Caucasian & Mesopotamian.

  1. 3. Ancestry: as of Feb 7, 2024

45% Ireland, 34% England & Northwestern Europe, 9% Scotland, 4% Cameroon, Congo & Western Bantu Peoples, 3% Senegal, 1% Ivory Coast & Ghana, 1% Nigeria, 1% Southern Bantu Peoples, 1% Norway, 1% Eastern European Roma, 1% Northern Italy.

  1. 4. FamilyTreeDNA, my siblings test shows:

Y-DNA Haplogroup- Confirmed Haplogroup is I-Y51328, mtDNA Confirmed Haplogroup is H3b1a.

95% Europe: 57% England, Wales, and Scotland, 37% Ireland, Eastern Europe: <1% Magyar, 5% African: West Africa, 3% Ghana, Togo, & Benin, <1% Senegal, Gambia & Guinea-Bissau, East Africa, <1% Eastern Lake Victoria Basin, Asia <1% Indian Subcontinent, <1% Western India, <1% Middle East & North Africa, Maghreb & Egypt

Hi Barry, it's been eleven days since I asked if your still interested in the US Civil War Project. I'll assume if I haven't heard from you in the next ten days that your interest in the project has changed, and I'll remove your badge. I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thank you.

Pam Kreutzer, Leader of the US Civil War Project

Hello Pam.....of course I'm still interested in the US Civil War Project, tell me how I can join.

Hi Barry, thank you for responding, I'll mark you as still interested. On the tags you follow, add US CIVIL WAR, then you'll be able to see what is going on in the Civil War Project.

On the Project Page, there's different ways you could help if your interested, such as the maintenance categories or space pages. If you enjoy Challenges there's usually one per month, which is posted on G2G.

Hi Barry, we'd love to have you as part of the US Southern Colonies project, but you first need to complete your pre-1700 certification. Get in touch with me once you have it. Also need to know what team(s) you'd like to be on.
Thank you, Barry, for every one of your more than one thousand contributions to our Shared Tree during the month of September. The Appreciation Team honors you for all of your efforts.

Hi Barry, I wanted to let you know that I have adjusted your Jacob's father. I believe a misunderstanding has occurred due to the interpretation of "Joseph of Early Anson Co., NC" (1775) That man was the Patriots father and whom Dr. Granville Hough's study indicated. Please see the pdf I entered into Joseph d1775 for your convenience. I hope the misunderstanding helps us.

Hello Barbara....Dont know if I told you this but my brother took the Big-Y test over a year ago and both we, my brother, H.R. Hough and Granville W. Hough are in the same block tree sharing variants I-Y51328 meaning we share the same common ancestor. Brother Don use to correspond with Granville quite a bit years ago when he was still alive, but at that time we didn't know as much as we do now.

Hoff-1185 and Hoff-1257 do not represent the same person because: Different birth places.

Hoff-1185 and Hoff-1257 appear to represent the same person because: Apparently an aborted first attempt, adopted by Wiki Admin???

Clearly same person. Hoff-1257 currently has no ID in his Contact - unless he is Hoff-1444. His contributions are not linked to his profile.

Barry, I have always wondered by early Chfld and Lancaster (Camden and Chesterfield) had people owning land in Orangeburg District. I believe it had something to do with the land given after they served in military capacities in GA and came back THROUGH orangeburg. Some went N and some S. This page I think has links to some possible answers. I'm going to explore it and hope you will too so we can find a way to clean this up and deal with the "lesser confirmed" issues that hit us all. Many suggestions here:

Hi again Barry,

I don't know if you have already been invited to participate in the Driggers Name Study so I wanted to make sure you were aware of it.

Would you have any objection to me adding the code for the Study so that the profiles you are adding will show up with the rest of the Driggers (by birth and marriage) on the category page. Adding the code will add a name study box like the one shown on the category page to the biography area of each profile.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Debi
