Biography

Elizabeth Ellen Hoff was the daughter of Samuel Hoff (1830–??) and Elizabeth Oldfield (1837-??), who were married on 1 January 1857 in Richland County, Ohio. She had one adopted sister, Ida, born in 1877 in Indiana.

Residence in 1870 was in Wayne township of Kosciusco county, Indiana.^[1] Elizabeth E 8 was at home with her mother, Elizabeth 34, who was keeping house. Her father, Samuel 38, was lumberman who owned $8000 worth of real estate and $2000 in personal property. Adam Mitchel 28 was a day laborer who lived with them.

Elizabeth was married on 26 March 1879 in Kusciuosko, Indiana to Henry I Stickler^[2] (1856–1910). He was the son of Andrew Stickler (1828–1899) and Margaret Warden (1835–??).

Residence in 1880 was in Wayne Township, Kosciusko county, Indiana.^[3] Elizabeth 19 was keeping house and her husband, Hanry 23 was a farmer. They had a laborer, George Redman 16, living with them. Her parents, Samuel S. Hoff 49 and Elizabeth 44, and her adopter sister, Ida 3, were living next door.

Elizabeth and Henry had a son, Lloyd Emanuel, on 1 October 1880 in Larwaill of Kosciousko county in Indiana. They had a daughter, Zoa Belle, in October of 1881 in Columbia City of Whitley county, Indiana. The they had a son, Walter Alvah, on 16 December 1887. Two more daughters followed; Mildred Ruby on 20 March 1892, and Coral Katherine on 17 January 1901, both in Larwaill.

Their daughter, Zoa Belle, was married to Chester A Jones on 19 March 1900 in Whitley county, Indiana. They were living with his parents at the time of the 1900 US Census.

Residence in 1900 was in Wayne Township, Kosciusko county, Indiana.^[4] Elizabeth E 39 was at home and she was the mother of four with four living. Her son, Emanuel L 20 was a farm laborer and her husband, Henry 44 was a farmer. Their other two children, Walter A 13 and Mildred R 8, were at school.

Their son, Walter Alvah, was married to Rose Bell Nickart in St. Joseph, Indiana, on 1 November 1909.

Her husband, Henry Stickler, died on 24 February 1910 in South Bend of St. Joseph county in Indiana.

Residence in 1910 was in Troy township of Whitley county, Indiana.^[5] Ellen 49 was a widow living with her oldest daughter, Zoa 28, and son-in-law, Chester 29, who was a farmer. Her two daughters, Mildred 18 and Kathrina 9, also lived there.

Elizabeth then married Mirlen Elsworth Yocum (1863-1940) on 4 April 1916 in Warsaw of Kosciusko in Indiana.^[6] He was the son of Andrew Yocum (1834–1894) and Christiana Latta (1839–1899). His wife had died in 1914, two years after they were married, and probably had no children.

Her daughter, Katherine, was married to Howard Konkle on 18 January 1919 in St. Joseph, Indiana.

Residence in 1920 was in Palestine village in Harrison township, Kosciusko county, Indiana.^[7]

Her daughter, Mildred Ruby, Mrs. Filmore Franklin Gardner, died on 11 September 1936.

Her second husband, Mirlen Elsworth Yocum, died on 22 September 1940 in Kosciusko county, Indiana.

Elizabeth Ellen Hoff Stickler Yocum died in 1943 in Indiana. Her burial was in the Palestine Cemetery in Palestine, Kosciusko County, Indiana.^{[9] [10]}
