Anne Nielsdatter was born 17 July 1835 in Rollag, Buskerud, the daughter of Nils Hoff and Kari Engar. She was baptized 9 August of the same year.[1]
She was confirmed on 17 May 1850 at Rollag. Her parents were Niels Carlsen and Kari Johnsdatter and the family were living at a cottager's farm at Hoff.[2]
Ann, aged 19 and single, emigrated to America on 1 April 1854, traveling from Rollag with Ingeborg Johnsdatter, age 24. [3]
Anne's father, Niels, and her sisters Torgun and Turi, moved to Sigdal on 15 April 1858.[4] There are no records of Ann's family in Sigdal, so they most likely didn't remain there for long and soon emigrated to America. Ann's younger brother, Niels, emigrated to America the following year in April 1859 at the age of 16.
