- The name given on The Burger Family website has been retained, despite the fact that the earliest South African source, namely the wedding register, says Andries Hofman. The spelling Andreas Hoffman is more plausible for someone born in Austria and may moreover be based on research by F. Boonzaier cited there to which I have not had access. [2]
- The Cape Archive catalogue lists a record of sentence being passed in 1815 against "Andries Hoffman, gebooren in Weenen". [2]
- A search at theNational Archives & Records Service of South Africa, for Andries and Hoffman, gives the following results that seem relevant; a verdict in 1815 and two wills filed in 1818 and 1819.
