Alfred Harris Hogg was born April 25, 1877 in Franklinville, Cattaraugus County, New York. He was the son of George W. and Ellen (Harris) Hogg. [1] [2] [3] [4]
Alfred attended school in Cattaraugus County and then graduated from Buffalo Business School. He was a long-time employee of the National Casket Company in Oneida, Madison County, New York. [5]
On August 24, 1898, Alfred married Carrie M. Todd in Oneida, Madison County, New York. In 1900 they were in Oneida with a one-year-old Helen. Carrie married again in 1905 to Robert J. Steinburg. [6] [7]
About 1907 he married Ellen Kilroy, the daughter of David and Ellen Kilroy of Oneida. [8] [9]
When Alfred registered for the draft in 1918, he was in Oneida and working for the National Casket Company. He was described as tall and slender with brown eyes and dark brown hair. [10]
By 1920, Alfred and Ellen were divorced and she was living with her mother in Oneida. Ellen later married again to Earl Buyea in 1927 in Oneida. [11] [12]
Alfred married Anna (Murphy) Strobel on February 8, 1921 in Utica, Oneida County, New York. It was about this time that he began using the spelling HOGUE for his last name. By 1925, they were living in Poland in the Town of Russia, Herkimer County, New York. [13] [14] [15]
In 1940, they were living on Genesee Street in Utica, New York.[16]
He died December 11, 1959 in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida. His body was returned to Utica and his funeral was held from the Lankton, Townsend & Cronk Funeral Home and from St. John’s Church where a requiem high Mass was offered by William J. Donovan. His bearers were all members of the Lions Club and he was buried in the family plot. [17] [18] [19]
