Johann Georg, Elector of Brandenburg, was born on September 11, 1525 in Cölln an der Spree (today's Berlin). He was the oldest son of Joachim II. von Brandenburg and Magdalene von Sachsen. He died on January 8, 1598.

On February 15, 1545, Johann Georg married Sophie von Liegnitz, daughter of Friedrich II. von Liegnitz and Sophie von Brandenburg-Ansbach-Kulmbach. They had one child:

On February 12, 1548, Johann Georg married Sabina von Brandenburg-Ansbach, daughter of Georg von Brandenburg-Ansbach and Hedwig von Münsterberg-Oels. They had 11 children:

  • two more sons and five more daughters died in their childhood.
