Biography

Mariah was born in 1838, the daughter of Thomas Holden and Nancy Lee. She died, aged 85-86, and is buried with her husband Jacob Klinger at Middle Creek Cemetery, Grover Hill, Ohio.[1]

Jacob Klinger and Mariah Jane Holden were married on 3 September 1860 in Van Wert County, Ohio.[2]

In 1870, the Clinger (Klinger) family lived in Washington Township, Van Wert County, Ohio. All members of the household were born in Ohio. The family included Jacob (Klinger), 31, a farmer, with $300 in personal estate; his wife Mariah, 31; their children, Mary A., 7, in school; John T., 5; Eliza, 2; and Sarah C. (Cassandra), six months, born in November; also living with them was Mary Holden, 25 (probably a cousin or other relative of Mariah (Holden) Klinger.[3]

In 1880, the Klinger family lived in Washington, Van Wert, Ohio. All members of the household were born in Ohio. The household included Jacob Klinger, 41, a farmer; his wife Jane, 42; their children, John, 15, a laborer, and in school; Eliza, 12, in school; Cassandra, 10, in school; Luella, 7, in school; Ervin, 4; and William, 2.[4]

In 1900, the Klingers lived on their rented farm in Latty Township, Grover Hill village, Paulding County, Ohio. All members of the household were born in Ohio. The family included Jacob Klinger, 61, born in March 1839, a farmer; his wife of 39 years, Mariah Jane, 62, b. Aug. 1838, who had had eight children, all of whom were living; and their son, Roscoe E., 20, b. Oct. 1880.[5]

In 1910, the Klinger family lived on their farm in Washington, Paulding, Ohio. They owned the farm with a mortgage. The household included Jacob Klinger, 71, a farmer; his wife of fifty years, Jane, 71, who could not write, and had had eight children, all of whom were living; and their son Roscoe, 29, a farm laborer.[6]

n 1920, Jane Klinger, 81, a widow, and her son Roscoe E.Klinger, 39, lived in her home on Harrison Street, Latty, Paulding, Ohio. Jane owned the house with a mortgage. Roscoe was single, and worked as a department store salesman.[7]
