She was a nurse during the US Civil War. After the war, Mary wrote and edited "Our Army Nurses", a book about the experiences of some of the many women who served as nurses during the war. In her book, she mentions seeing to her nephew, William K. Nason of Maine. He was the son of her sister, Sarah June (Holland) Nason.
She passed away in 1895.
