Biography

Based on the likely date of her marriage, Mercy Holland was probably born in about 1735 in Goochland County, Colony of Virginia. A prior version of this profile gave 2 January 1735 as the exact date, with no reliable source. She was the daughter of Michael Holland and Judith (__), and had not yet come of age when her father made his will in Goochland County on 10 October 1747.l in Goochland County, Colony of Virginia, on 10 October 1746.[1][2]

Marriage

Mercy was still unmarried when her mother made her will in Goochland County on 22 August 1751.[2] However, she married William Colvard after that, possibly in Goochland County, most likely in about 1757 based on the birth of their first known child in January 1759.[3]

Later Life

They lived in Wilkes county North Carolina.[citation needed]

Death

The circumstances of her death are uncertain. A prior version of this profile claimed she died in 1845 in Dycas Creek, Wilkes County, North Carolina, but sif this were true she would have been about 110 years old at the time of her death, which is very unlikely.

Proper First Name

Her proper first name was probably Mercy, which is the most common spelling in the records. In her father's will, it is spelled "Marcy" and in the baptism records of the Douglas Register, she appears as Mercy, Massey, Meray, and Mary.
