Biography

Letitia (Holland) Wright was a convict on the Third Fleet.

Letitia Holland arrived in Australia on the Mary Ann under the pseudonym Ann Guest, but returned to her original name on arrival in Australia. She passed away in 1827.

Letitia was born about 1764, according to her age at death.

She was convicted at the Old Bailey in London in December 1789, under the name Ann Guest, with two other women Ann Yardley, and Susannah Brown. They were found guilty and sentenced to death. This was reprieved to transportation for life.

Letitia was transported on the Mary Anne which left England in February 1791 and arrived at New South Wales on 9 July 1791.

In the colony, Ann lived with James Wright (First Fleet Convict, Scarborough, 1788). They had 4 children:

  • James (1792-1792),
  • George (C1794),
  • Jane (1797)
  • Shepherdess (1799).

They married on 10 April 1810 at St. John's Church of England, Parramatta. The register recorded: James Wright a batchelor [sic] of the parish of St John Parramatta and Letitia Holland of the same place, a spinster, were married by license by William Cowper. James signed the register and Letitia made her X mark, witnesses were James Gardner and Mary Gardner.

Letitia died on 26 June 1827 according to her gravestone. She was buried on 1 July in St. John's cemetery, Parramatta, the burial registered by Rev. Samuel Marsden.[1] The grave has the inscription:[2]
