When Virgin Smith died in 1841, she is recorded as the wife of Richard Holland and he signed her death certificate with his mark , so I believe that this Richard and Virgin were still living together at 1841,

I therefore conclude that this Richard Holland is unlikely to be the same Richard Holland that was married to Elizabeth Langley and these profiles have been combined in error to show that Richard was married to both Virgin and Elizabeth as the marriages are only 1 year apart and Virgin was still alive at that time.

I am uncertain how to identify if Richard Holland is the same person or two separate people. Anyone with proof or suggestions, please feel free to message me or comment below. I have tried death certificates but as UK certificates do not name children, spouses or parents unless they are an informant, I can think of no way to positively sort out the facts. Also there seems to be a convergence of places lived between the two families, including Totternhoe, Berkhamstead, Linslade and Leighton Buzzard.

Died 17 May 1859. , Buckinghamshire, England. ^[7] The 1859 death certificate states that Richard was living at Southcourt (possibly Southcourt Road), Linslade at the time of his death. His occupation is recorded as rush matmaker and the death was registered by Elizabeth Carter who was present at the death.
