On 16th January, 1872, in Saint Patrick's Church, Bolton, Lancashire, England, Mary Ann Farrell, aged 19, married 20-year-old John Holland. Both were single. John was a Spindle and Fly Maker, residing Great Moore Street, Great Bolton, the son of Michael Holland,Deceased Painter. Mary Ann lived 8 Chancery Lane, Great Bolton, the daughter of William Farrell, Tailor. The Catholic Church ceremony was performed by Denis Byrne (by certificate) before witnesses James Coleman and Jane McHugh. Mary Ann was the only one in the bridal party unable to sign her name, leaving her mark instead. The certificate was also signed by John Mather, Registar. [2]
