Biography

William was born about 1841 in Missouri, United Statess.[1] He passed away in 1906. He left a wife, seven sons, and three daughters.[2]

In July 1870, twenty-six-year-old William was living with Isom and Nancy Hollandsworth and their children in Canaan Township of Gasconade County, Missouri.[3]

Military

He served in the American Civil War as a Private in Company M of the 5th Iowa Cavalry. According to the 1890 Veteran's Schedule, he enlisted on 5 August 1861 and was discharged 1 October 1864.[4] He was issued a military pension for being a invalid in 1889.[5][6][7]

On 27 June 1890, William's military pension beneficiaries were Arthur, Flora, and Hobart M. Hollandsworth and their assigned guardian was William P. Hale.[8] Presumably, his wife Kristine had passed by this date. William's second wife Ludema received a widow's pension after his death.[9]

Family

William married Kristina Bertram on 23 March 1865 in Gasconade County, Missouri.[10]

Death

His obituary appeared in the local German newspaper.
"Wm. Hollandsworth, ein alter Veteran des Bürgerkrieges ist letzte Woche zu Canaan im Alter von 63 Jahren geftorben."[11]
Wm. Hollandsworth, an old Civil War veteran, died last week at Canaan at the age of 63.[12] While he was not German, his wife Kristina was. William was buried at Liberty Baptist Cemetery in Owensville, Gasconade County, Missouri.[13]
