Jane was born in Cavill, Yorkshire, England, and was baptised nearby in Eastrington in 1827. She was the daughter of George Holliday and Martha Gregory[1] and lived with her parents in Cavill in 1841.[2]
In 1846 Jane married Francis Carlill in Welton, Yorkshire.[3][4] At the time of the 1851 census the family lived in Welton, Yorkshire, where Francis worked as a shoemaker.[5] In 1861 and 1871 the Carlills lived on Welton Road in Brough, Yorkshire. Francis worked as a general labourer.[6][7]
Francis died in 1877.[8] In 1881 Jane lived at Derwent House on Flatgate in Howden, Yorkshire.[citation needed]
