Charles, my great grandfather, was born in 1830. In East Retford, Nottinghamshire, England. His parents were George Holliday and Francis Nettleship.[1][2]
On the 1841 census, age10, Charles was with his father, George, and brother Henry at Leaf Place, Manchester. The Head of the house was Lydia Horton, Charles father’s future wife.[3]
He married Ann Smedley in 1850, in Nottinghamshire. They had 10 children.[4]
Like his father, George, Charles occupation was a joiner.
By 1861 he had moved back to Nottinghamshire but in 1863 the year his son Arthur was born he was back in Rusholme, Manchester (noted on Arthur’s baptismal records). [6]
He stayed in Manchester living in Withington on the 1871 Census[7]
Still living in Withington in 1881 he was listed on the census as a Joiner, unemployed.[8]
He passed away in 1890, age 60, in Withington and was buried in St Paul’s churchyard.[9][10]
