Biography

Born 3 OCT 1763. Frederick, Virginia, USA. [1] George was the son of Abraham Hollingsworth (1739-1772) and Margaret Wright (b. 11 Dec 1742, Prince Georges Co, MD). [2]

Migration He migrated with his parents to Dunmore (now Shenandoah) Co., VA. Resided there until 1777, when his family moved to North Carolina, and later to Laurens Co, SC.

Connection to Father Feb 10, 1792, George Hollingsworth and Susannah his wife of Laurens County to Robert Hollingsworth of the same, 10s. 140 acres, part of tract of 300 acres granted to Thomas North on Mudlick Creek, called "Liberty Springs Tract", sold to John Williams by said North 22 and 23 Nov. 1773, and sold by Williams to Abraham Hollilngsworth 10,11 Jan. 1778 devolving to said George by Heirship. Signed by George, but Susannah signs by x, [Proof of connection to his father Abraham Hollingsworth}.[3] [4]

Westward Migration George Hollingsworth and Susannah his wife and their children sold their South Carolina lands, packed up and headed to the newly opened Indiana Territory in 1806. Purchasing two adjoining sections of land in Dearborn County, Indiana 13 May 1806. [5]

According to the History of Union County, Indiana Hollingsworth House was built two miles south of Fairfield during 1806 and 1808 by George Hollingsworth after his arrival in Union County in the spring of 1806 by ox team with wife and three children from near Charleston, SC. The house has five rooms, porch and and cellar and uses the latch string on some doors. It was a show-place when built. His son Enoch born in it in 1808 lived his entire life there. [6] George Hollingsworth shows on the IN Territorial census of 1807 living Dearborn County. When Dearborn County was divided, George Hollingsworths' land was in Bath Twp, Franklin County, Indiana.
