Biography
Mother of former Indiana senator Birch Bayh. Grandmother of former Indiana governor and current senator Evan Bayh.
Leah Ward Hollingsworth was born on 6 Sept 1897 in Indiana, the daughter of John H(arrison) Hollingsworth and Mary Catherine Ward.[1]
Leah Ward Hollingsworth and Birch Evans Bayh were married on 25 Dec 1923 in Vigo County, Indiana. Leah lived in Sanford, Indiana, and both were teachers. It was the first marriage for both. Birch lived in Terre Haute, Indiana.[1]
Leah Bayh died on 16 Oct 1940 at Emergency Hospital, Washington, D.C., and is buried at the Highland Lawn Cemetery, Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana.[2] Her obituary says that she was survived by her husband, both of her parents, and two children.[3]
