Jacob "Jake" Hollingsworth was born about 1820 in Lawrence Co, MS [1][2] (estimated: year from 1838 tax roll, site from father's location in 1820 US Census). In 1838 he was taxed $2.50 for 4 slaves in Newton Co, MS.[3] He was in the 1840 census for Newton Co, MS.[4] On 5 JAN 1841 he acquired 83.25 ac in Newton Co, MS (BLM GLO Doc# 4698 specifies T6N, R11E, S6, W½, NE¼).[5] In 1845 he was in the state census for Newton Co, MS (1 Male, 4 Females).[6] He was not in the 1850 census [7] so it is assumed that he died ca 1849 in Newton Co, MS. It is presumed that he was buried in the Hollingsworth Cemetery (on private property) in Newton Co, MS.[8] His grave (like others) is no longer marked. The oldest surviving headstone dates to 1878.
Jacob wed Emily Alexander[9] ca 1840 in Newton Co, MS. They had the following children:
Elizabeth "Lizzie" Hollingsworth, born 21 FEB 1842, Union, Newton Co, MS; died 29 Aug 1928, Cleburne, Johnson Co, TX.
Sarah Jane Hollingsworth, born ca 1843, Newton Co, MS; died 4 OCT 1870, Shubuta, Clarke Co, MS.
Amanda Hollingsworth was born in 1844/5 in Newton Co, MS. She was in the 1850 US Census for Newton Co, MS, and apparently died young because she has not been found in a later census.
David R Hollingsworth, born abt 1846, Newton Co, MS; died abt 1890, Bosque Co, TX.
Nancy H Hollingsworth, born 21 MAY 1848, Newton Co, MS; died 13 FEB 1929, Fort Worth, Tarrant Co, TX.
