Biography

2nd marriage date may be Feb 22 or 23, 1867

"When 19 years of age, Benjamin H. Hollister started with his brother-in-law, John Yost, for Pike's Peak with teams. They went about 80 miles down the Platte Valley, when becoming convinced of the folly of proceeding further, they returned home. After the death of his first wife he enlisted in the 24th NY Battery for three years, or during the war, and was captured at Plymouth, N.C., and held a prisoner 9 months at Andersonville and Charleston; returned in 1865, a living skeleton and as one raised from the dead, having been reported among the Perry boys that had died, and was supposed to be dead for several months. He is a farmer and resides on the old homestead at Perry."
