Biography

Frances Eliza ‘Frankie’ Hollister was born 24 April 1852 at Greenupsburg, Greenup County, Commonwealth of Kentucky, United States of America. She is the daughter of Lyman Hollister and Margaret Flick.

Frankie was 18 months old when her father died 27 October 1853.

Frances is recorded in the 1860 United States Census, enumerated 09 June, as Franka Hollister residing in the household of her mother Margaret Dodge and step-father Josiah Dodge in the 2nd Ward Covington City, Kenton County, Kentucky. She is seven years old. Also residing in the household are her 17-year-old sister Esther Hollister and a servant Mary Goff and her nine-year-old daughter Anna. Mary is 46 years old and Ireland is entered as her birth country. Ohio is entered as Anna's birth state and she had been attending school.

Frankie married Theodore Clark Davis 06 May 1869 at Covington, Kentucky. He was born 25 August 1842 in Ohio and is the son of Nelson Davis and Rebecca O’Neal. Frankie was 17 years old and Theodore was 26 years old as recorded in the Marriage Register for Kenton County, Kentucky. This was the first marriage for both Frankie and Theodore. Frankie had the consent of her guardian J. Wilcox, not clear why she had a guardian when her mother was still living. Frankie was a resident of Covington, Kentucky and Theodore was a resident of Bellaire, Ohio employed as a Pilot. There are three known children of this marriage.

Frances is recorded in the 1870 United States Census, enumerated 01 June, as Francis Davis residing in the household of her husband Theodore Davis at Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky. She is 18 years old and Keeps House, Kentucky is recorded as her place of birth. Theodore is 27, is a S.B. [Steam Boat] Captain, own real estate valued at 7000 ($141,537.33 today’s dollar) and a personal estate valued at 18000 ($363,953.13 today’s dollar), Virginia is entered as his place of birth and he can read and write. Also residing in the household are her mother and step-father Margaret and Josiah Dodge and two female mulatto domestic servants 12-year-old Edmona and 26-year-old Lou, both having been born in Kentucky. They had three known children.

Theodore petitioned for bankruptcy in the District Court of Kentucky in August 1872 and was declared bankrupt October 1872.

Frances is recorded in the 1880 United States Census, enumerated 23 June, as Frances Davis residing in the household of her mother and step-father Margaret [recorded Margeret] Josiah Dodge [recorded Doge] at Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky. She is 24 years old, Kentucky is entered as her place of birth, no occupation is entered for her and she can read and write. Theodore is 38 years old, Ohio is entered as his place of birth, is a River Pilot and he can read and write. Her three children are also residing in the household: 10-year-old son Lyman Davis, eight-year-old daughter Margeret Davis, and six-year-old Clifford Davis; Kentucky is entered as their place of birth and they had attended school.

Frances is recorded in the 1900 United States Census, enumerated 29 June, as Francis E. Davis residing in the household of her mother Margaret and step-father Josiah R. Dodge in the Sanfordstown Precinct, Kenton County, Kentucky. Francis is 48 years old; her birth date is entered as April 1852 with Kentucky entered as her place of birth, no occupation is entered for her and she can read and write. She is the mother of four children, two of whom are living and has been married for 31 years to Theodore. Theodore is recorded as T.C Davis, he is 57 years old, his birth date is entered as August 1842 with Ohio as his place of birth, he is a Pilot and can read and write. Her daughter, 27-year-old Margaret is also residing in the household.

Frances is recorded in the 1910 United States Census, enumerated 25 April, as Frances E. Davis residing in the household of her husband Theodore C. [recorded as Theodore T.] Davis on the farm they own, free of mortgage, at 118 Madison Road, Magistrial District #2 Part of Sanfordtown Precinct, Kenton County, Kentucky. She is 58 years old, Kentucky is entered as her place of birth, the mother of three children, three of whom are living, no occupation is entered for her and she can read and write. She and Theodore have been married for 41 years and it is the first marriage for both of them. Theodore is 67 years old and Ohio is entered as his place of birth, he is a Steam boat Captain and Pilot, he is able to read and write. Also residing in the household are her sister Esther Kirtley and a servant Maggie Buchan and her nine-year-old daughter Jessie also reside in the home. Maggie is 40 years of age, Kentucky is entered as her place of birth, she is a widow, the mother of one child, one of whom is living and she is able to read and write. Kentucky is entered as Jessie’s place of birth and she had attended school.

She was 61 years old when she died 18 October 1913 at Covington, Kenton County, Commonwealth of Kentucky. She was buried 20 October 1913 Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, Kenton County, Commonwealth of Kentucky. Her grave is located at Section 09 Lot 39 Grave 04.
