The Kentucky Death Index, 1911-2000, lists the following record: "Name: James I Hollon Sr; Death Date: 14 May 1960; Death Place: Jefferson; Age: 76; Residence: Wolfe; Volume: 22; Certificate: 10758."
The following obituary appeared in the Wolfe County News newspaper in May 1960, which was found via the research of Carole Bays: "James I. Hollon, Sr., 76, of Hazel Green, veteran of World War I, in which he ranked as Captain, died in the Veterans Hospital at Louisville, Saturday night, May 14 at about 8 o'clock after three weeks illness. He was a member of the Catholic Church, Winchester, Ky. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Daisy Day Hollon and two sons, Kelly and Raymond. He is survived by one son, Jas. I. Hollon, Jr., and a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Hollon Stewart, both of Hazel Green; four grandchildren Connie and Jimmy Hollon and James Ivan and Kelly Stewart; one brother, Clay Hollon of Chicago; two sisters, Mrs. Loura Henderson and Mrs. Emma Rowe, both of Calif; one half brother, Beckham Hollon of Chicago; three half sisters, Mrs. Lennie Hollon Land, Lancaster, Mrs. Ruth Fry and Mrs. Iva Noel, both of Tulsa, Okla. Funeral was conducted Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock at the home with Father Theodore Keller of the Winchester Catholic Church officiating. Burial was in the Hazel Green cemetery with Herald and Stewart Funeral Home of West Liberty in charge. Active pallbearers were M.E. Center, Ralph Lockard, Chester Gibbs, A.B. Cecil, Bruce Trimble and John Cox, Jr."
