Biography

Mary Elizabeth Josephine Holloway was born in 1870 in Mildenhall, Suffolk, England, United Kingdom. She was the daughter of John Frederick Evans Holloway, Clergyman, and Emma Caroline Dawson.

In the 1871 census Mary (age 1) was living with her father and 7 siblings in Blackboys, Framfield, Sussex, England.^[1]

In the 1881 census Mary (age 11) was signing and living with her parents and 5 siblings in Warblington, Hampshire, England.^[2]

In the 1891 census Mary (age 21) was the Governess for the Chas Alocroft Phillips family in Pendleton, Lancashire, England.^[3]

In the 1901 census Mary (age 31) was the single boarder of Edna A Cope in Sandon, Essex, England. She was employed as an elementary school teacher.^[4]

In the 1911 census Mary (age 41), Assistant Teacher, was the single boarder of Annie Heward in Coolham Horsham Sussex, Shipley, England.^[5]

Research Notes

• While it's clear Mary belongs to this family unit, her christening and birth registration hasn't been located, despite the location of both for her other 11 siblings. (checked GRO, Familysearch, Ancestry)
• Her death record or 1939 Register record hasn't been located. There was a Mary Holloway, retired School Mistress, who seemed to be a good match, however, on discovering her death record & probate it was discovered she was Mary Louise Holloway, daughter of William Holloway.
