DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Solomon by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Solomon:

I have done some research and I believe that Solomon Holman was born in England. I have also found that he had 2 other brother's that traveled with him as well. In my research I found evidence that his mother, father and 2 brothers traveled from England and their boat was invaded and they were taken. The evidence also shows that he was held for about 7 years until he hid in a barn when the pirates were on shore in a barn. He then later went on to marry the woman of the family that owned that barn and they settled in Newbury, Mass.

I don't think Gabriel Holman is Solomon's father.

There are at least four sources that state clearly Solomon Holman was born in England.

1) H. Royce Bass, The history of Braintree, Vermont: including a memorial of families that have resided in town, (Rutland, Vt.: Tuttle & Co., state printers, 1883) pg 149.

2) Coffin, Joshua. A sketch of the history of Newbury, Newburyport, and West Newbury, from 1635 to 1845. (Boston: S.G. Drake, 1845) pg. 394

3) Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts, United States. Vital Records of Newbury, Massachusetts, to the End of the Year 1849, Volume 2. (Salem, Mass.: The Essex Institute, 1911) page 617

4) John C. Crane. Jonathan Holman, a Revolutionary War: A Paper Read before the Worcester Society of Antiquity December 5th, 1893 (Worcester Mass. Private Press of Franklin P. Rice. 1894) page 5.

The accounts vary in sources 1, 2, and 4, but each one has a common thread; he was pressed on board a man-of-war, he escaped, and he settled in Mass.

In addition, Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts, United States. Vital Records of Newbury, Massachusetts, to the End of the Year 1849, Volume 1. (Salem, Mass.: The Essex Institute, 1911), which records births from about the beginning of 1640, does not have an entry for Solomon.

In David Emory Holman's book, " The Holmans in America; Concerning the Descendants of Solaman Holman," there is a section entitled "Ancestors of Other Holman Lines." On page xxxi of that section, the subsection "Edward of Plymouth, Mass" states that there was a Gabriel and Edward Holman at Marblehead, Mass in 1674. I am sure it references the right Edward and Gabriel because it documents Edward's arrival on the Ann in 1623. In other words, according to this book, Edward and Gabriel are from another line of Holmans.
