Biography

Margaret Holme was christened on 21 Sep 1834 at the church of St Mary the Virgin in Prescot, Lancashire. She was the daughter of John and Mary Holme. Her father's occupation was recorded as stone mason, and the family's address as Whiston. ^[1]

By June 6th 1841, they were living in Comb Shop Brow, Eccleston, Lancashire (later known as Croppers Hill.^[2]). Margaret's father was a stone mason. ^[3]

Margaret's mother died in 1842, and was buried on 19 Oct 1842 at the church of St Mary the Virgin in Prescot, Lancashire. Margaret's father remarried in 1845, to Ellen Mercer.

By March 30th 1851, the family was living in Boundry Lane Holt, Rainhill (which probably explains why Margaret's birthplace was reported as Rainhill in 1861). ^[4]

Margaret married William Atkinson Reed on 9 Dec 1860 at St Helen's Church in Sefton, Lancashire. Both were of full age (21 or more) and lived in Waterloo, and neither had been married before; William was a grocer. Their fathers were named as Thompson Reed (builder) and John Holme (builder). The witnesses were John Richard Holme and Mary Mercer. ^[5]
