John Holme (or Holmes, or Hulm) was christened on 14 Sep 1817 at the church of St Mary the Virgin in Prescot, Lancashire. He was the son of William and Ann Holme. His father's occupation was recorded as toolmaker, and the family's address as Eccleston.
John married Ann Sephton on 26 Dec 1840 at Farnworth Chapel of Ease in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire. Both were of full age (21 or more) and lived in Eccleston, and neither had been married before; John was a tool maker. Their fathers were named as William Holmes (tool maker) and Richard Sephton (farmer). The witnesses were John Rigby and James Southern.
By June 6th 1841, Ann and John were living with Ann's father and brothers in Catchey Moss, Eccleston; her father was a farmer. Her mother wasn't with the family, so may have died before then.
