William Howard Holmes was born about 1824 in England, United Kingdom, son of John Holmes (1802– ).
William (29) married Annie Sophia Mills (20) (born on 8 December 1833 in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England; daughter of Richard Mills and Ann Sophia (Hearn) Mills) on 12 August 1854 in Wellington. Their known children were:
