Biography

William was born in 1747. He is the son of Josiah Homes and Hannah Dennis. His baptism was recorded at Christ Church, Shrewsbury, New Jersey on the 18th of October 1747 when he was 12 days old. His widow, Mary (Kirby) Holmes, filed for pension from his service in the Revolutionary War naming Anthony Holmes as her brother-in-law. She stated William had died the 20th of June in 1821 and they had married the year 1779 per her mother's bible record. Mary also indicated they'd had twelve children, the first born July 1, 1780 but only living a few hours, with only seven surviving to adulthood. An affidavit filed by their children Wm. K. Holmes and Maria Holmes included the following incomplete birth record:
