Mercy and Joseph Breed came to Venango County, Pennsylvania, in 1818 with five children (three sons and two daughters), who likewise brought their spouses and children. They were pioneers and first permanent residents in that part of the woodland frontier. They hacked out a difficult agrarian existence in the hard-scrabble lands of northwest Pennsylvania. They were tough folks who passed the survival tests in an unforgiving environment. Their children and their descendants contributed an important food supply resource for the new town of Titusville.
Mercy (Holmes) Breed died 26 Oct 1844 at Breedtown, Venango County, Pennsylvania. Her grave is represented to be in Breedtown Cemetery, Venango County, Pennsylvania, USA [3]. No grave marker is depicted.
