James B and Johnaton both married Holmes, Sisters? Judith and Cynthia Holmes one born about 1745 and 1750??
From a notebook entitled "Early Probates of Wills" in the Cherokee County Clerk's office, Rusk, Texas. copied by Dorothy (White) Edwards on 1 Apr 2011. Woodall, Thomas H. J 479-484, J 603 F2 36, 53, 67, 559 G2 37, 46
Joel A. Woodall, administrator, surviving wife was Susannah. The heirs were:
There is no date for the probate. The letters and numbers are the volume and page numbers for books, probably deed books.
1850 Cherokee County, Texas census Family number 516
You will notice that there are 2 children listed in the probate that were not in the 1850 census, Joel A. and John W. I think they were older siblings who had already left home in 1850. Joel married 26 Jan 1838, so he definitely was gone. Notice that Joel was the administrator, so he probably was an older son. I don't have any other info on John but he also may have married and left home. Also, 2 children, Ephraim and Martha were in the 1850 census but not listed in the probate. They are also not in the 1860 census. They had probably died.
I noticed that you have that Thomas died in MS in 1863. He was in the 1860 Cherokee County census at age 64. I didn't think it was probable that a 64 year old man with a family would go back to MS to die 3 years later. I found that he died 9 Feb 1864 in Cherokee County.
1860 Cherokee County, Texas census, Post Office, Rusk Woodall, Thomas H. 64
All the children were born in AL. Rachel would have been 7 in the 1850 census. Why was she not listed?
We have seen that in 1860, Thomas and his family was in Texas, his son Joel is back in AL. I wonder why Thomas did not chose a son who lived locally to be the administrator. Notice Joel's children, Margaret, Lucille and Sarah were born in TX while one year old Edward was born in AL. He must have moved back to AL in 1859, then back to Cherokee County, TX, where he died 1 Aug 1867.
1860 Jackson County, AL census (M653-11), District 3, Paint Rock P.O., page 578.
From a notebook entitled "Early Probates of Wills" in the Cherokee County Clerk's office, Rusk, Texas. copied by Dorothy (White) Edwards on 1 Apr 2011. This probate is also undated. Woodall, Joel A. deceased Vol F2 Pages 672, 689, 759, 760 Vol G2 Pages 37, 46 September 1867
W. C. Woodall appointed administrator, to sell corn, tools, etc. Notice that the Vol G2 Pages 37, 46 were the same pages referenced his Thomas's probate.
Also, I found a Joel O. Woodall in Cherokee County. I could not find any connection to my family so I thought he was not related. I just now went back and took another look. Joel O. Woodall in an 11 year old boy living in a household of various surnames in the 1850 census.
John Woodall born 1720 and died 1806 married to Judith (Holmes). Suggested proof would be they sign neighbor's will (George Hoge, Hodge)
John Woodall was married 2 times, first, Isobella & children born during 1750's, second Judith & son Thomas Holmes Woodall b. 1793, a 46 year span between births making Judith 63 years old. That does not seem logical or reasonable.
