Biography

Phyllis Holmes was born probably at Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England, about 1550; and died at Berwick-upon-Tweed sometime after the burial of her last known child, on 16 June 1584.^[1]

The identity and parentage of Phyllis Holmes is presently unknown, however, she may be closely related to one Ellis Holmes who was buried at Berwick, 23 December 1591.^[2] He had among other children, a daughter Phyllis Holmes, who was baptized at Berwick-upon-Tweed, 20 April 1584; she is too young to be the Phyllis Holmes who married Ralph Crawford the Younger, but she could be a clue to her identity.

She married at Berwick-upon-Tweed, 16 December 1572, Ralph Crawford.^[3]

Ralph Crawford "the Younger" was born at Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England, about 1552, son of Ralph Crawford "the Elder" and his wife Isabella —. He died after 23 December 1602, when he signed his last will and testament.^[4]
