Bob was the son of Charles Holmes and Maud Thompson He was born on November 27, 1922 in Owen Sound, Ontario. He joined the military in the Royal Canadian Artillery in March 1942 and served until 1946. He served in World War II in Canada, England and Continental Europe receiving the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, The Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Bob re-enlisted in 1955 and stayed in the military as an Instrument Technician in RCEME until his retirement as a Corporal in 1973. Bob was married to Lyla Boyce and had three children.[1]
