Sarah HOLMES was born in 1842 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England[1] and was christened on 18 February 1844 at St Mary, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England[2]. Her parents were James HOLMES and Hannah RICHMOND.
1851, 8 year old school girl, Sarah was living in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England with her parents, James (age 40, Journeyman Tailor) and Hannah (45) and her 2 sisters, Louisa (7) and Eliza (4)[3].
The ship, Calliope set sail from London, England via Southampton on 1 Feb 1853 with assisted immigrants, James HOLMES (42 year old, tailor from Shropshire), his wife, Hannah (43) and daughters, Sarah (10), Louisa (8) and Eliza (5) and arrived in Hobson's Bay, Colony of Victoria on 18 May 1853[4][5]. On arrival James and family went to work for Mr. CRAY of Melbourne for 3 months with rations.
Henry William ALDER and Sarah HOLMES were married on 25 March 1860 in Geelong, Victoria, Australia[6].
She passed away on 10 January 1878 in Brunswick East, Victoria, Australia[8] and was buried at the Melbourne General Cemetery, Carlton North, Melbourne City, Victoria, Australia[9].
ALDER.—On the 10th inst., at her residence, Brunswick-road, East Brunswick, Sarah Alder, wife of H. W. Alder, late of Geelong, of typhoid fever, aged 35 years.
