Biography

BURIAL Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Mausoleum Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, USA

He was the son of William Henry Holmes Sr. and Sarah Josephine Lewis. He married (1) Lula LaPorte at Baker City, Oregon, on May 10, 1917; (2) Edna Ruth Levy at Portland, Oregon, on March 14, 1936.

Crash Kills ‘Ted’ Holmes

W. H. (Ted) Holmes, prominent Oregon businessman, Newberg resident and chairman of Austin Flegel’s Democratic campaign for governor in 1950, was killed Monday when the station wagon he was driving was mashed by a log truck in a collision near the intersection of highways 99 and 217 in Tigard.

Witnesses said Holmes was proceeding north on 217, and the truck, with trailer, driven by George Horace Edward Smith, route 1, Sherwood, was traveling south, when the end of the trailer swung into the on-coming lane. In the impact the engine of the Holmes car was pushed into the front seat and logs from the trailer spilled onto the top of the car.

Several Concerns Headed

Washington County Coroner Graham Young and state police investigated the accident.

Holmes was president of the Air King Manufacturing corporation, Tigard, and the Inter-Continental Trading company, Portland. He was also associated with the Tidewater-Shaver Barge Lines.

He is survived by his widow, Edna; two sisters, Mrs. R. P. Bonham and Jessie Haney, both of Seattle; two step-daughters, Mrs. Leslie Sherman and Mrs. Lew S. Russell Jr. of Portland.

J. P. Finley & Son mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.
