Biography

Ann was the sixth daughter of Thomas and Susannah Holmes.[1] She was baptised at All Saints Oxford on 8 January 1806.[2]

Marriage licence obtained 4 January 1826 in the London Diocese for the Reverend William Mitchell of the Parish of Saint Mary Islington, clerk, bachelor of the age of twenty one years, and Ann Holmes of Saint George Bloomsbury, spinster, aged twenty years, with the consent of Susan Holmes widow, the mother of the said Ann Holmes, her father being dead.[3] They married 5 January 1826 at St Mary Islington.[4]

Marriage notice in the Oxford University and City Herald 7 January 1826:

Clergymen married: On Thursday last, at Islington, by the Rev. E. Bickersteth, the Rev. Wm. Mitchell, of Bombay, to Ann, youngest daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Holmes, of this city.[5]

Ann and William Mitchell (1803–1870) had three children:

  1. Annie Mitchell 1826–1917
  2. Susan Augusta Mitchell 1828–1867
  3. William Owen Mitchell 1829–1914

A death notice from the Oxford University and City Herald 26 March 1831:

On Wednesday evening the 23rd instant, died, after a painful and lingering illness, aged 25 years, Ann, Wife of the Rev. William Mitchell, late of Bombay, and youngest Daughter of the late Mr Thomas Holmes of this city.[6]
