Biography
Private Andrew Holmes served with Cumberland County Militia, Pennsylvania Militia during the American Revolution.
Andrew Holmes is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A057008.
Andrew Holmes was born Oct. 26, 1730, in County Antrim, Ireland. page 272 His parents were Nathaniel Holmes (d. in Carlisle) and Jane Hunter (d. in Colerain, N. Ireland).
He emigrated from Ireland to the US in 1756 with his father and three brothers. His brother Nathaniel and his father went on to settle in Londonderry, NH and he and his two other brothers remained in Carlisle. His mother died in Ireland before the family came to PA.
Andrew married Jane or Jean Graham, 30 Oct 1760. Jane Graham Holmes was born 1741 and died 1815. They had 9 known children, listed below.
In 1762 he became the owner of 150 acres of land. As can be seen in the census information below, Andrew also owned 3 or 4 slaves.
Military
Commanded a company of rangers during the Revolutionary War. He served as private in Capt. William Moore's Cumberland County, Pennsylvania militia.
