Obituary

Helen Holstein Geier, lifetime resident of Endicott, Washington, passed away on June 15, 2014 at the Whitman Health & Rehabilitation Center in Colfax. She was 94. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday June 19, 2014 at the Endicott Cemetery with a catered lunch reception to follow.

Helen was born to John & Kate Holstein on the family farm in December of 1919. Growing up, she learned a strong work ethic from her parents, working on the farm and cooking meals for large harvest crews. Helen rode by horse to attend elementary school at the Hubbard School on Union Flat. A good student, she not only mastered her own grade level curriculum, but also heard and soaked in much of the material that the older students were learning. Helen graduated from Endicott High School in 1938.

On February 21, 1942 she married Walter “Wally” Geier in Endicott. When Wally entered the US Army that same year, Helen worked for a time at the Bank of Endicott and the US Post Office. Several years after his discharge, the couple opened Wally’s Chevron Service in Endicott where Helen served as bookkeeper and later pumped gas. She had fond memories of a trip they won to the Hawaiian Islands in February of 1974 that was sponsored by the Standard Oil Company.

Helen and Wally were avid sports fans, attending high school games and WSU football and basketball games. Her hobbies included reading, watching sports on TV, cooking and enjoying the lights and sounds of Nevada.

Helen is survived by her only child, Linda Geier of Endicott; sister-in-law Charlene Geier Kunze of Colfax; childhood friend Helen Mae Weitz Helt of Endicott and her close and faithful friend Mary Scheuerman of Colfax as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wally and her brother Robert.

Special thanks to Valerie & JD Marker at Henderson House as well as Doctors Jones, Singh, Candelaria and Johnson and the dedicated therapists at Whitman Health & Rehab. Linda also wishes to express her appreciation and love to the understanding, patient and caring nurses, aides and other staff at Whitman Health & Rehab.

Memorial contributions in Helen’s honor are suggested to the Endicott Cemetery or to a charity of choice. Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax has been entrusted with funeral arrangements. [1]
