Biography

When Nancy Frances Holt was born on May 30, 1851, in Kentucky, her father, Jacob, was 17, and her mother, Polly, was 25. She had seven sons and three daughters with Thomas Alexander Garrett between 1874 and 1895. She died having lived for more than 100 years. She died on August 18, 1955, in Cumberland, Tennessee, at the age of 104, and was buried in Mayland, Tennessee. Grandma lived 50 years after Grandpa died.

Grandpa and ma built a little log cabin in Overton County TN on 200 acres of land they got from the Grandma Holts' family. I was able to visit there in 2015, someone else has the land now and the little log cabin is gone but the bigger log cabin was still there.

In 1930 a bigger home and barn was built which my daddy (Glen Garrett-5361) helped build when he was just a boy. Home and barn are still there today, along with the grave where his siblings are buried.

Her son Isaac Jacob (jake) was born on July 17, 1874, in Overton, Tennessee. Her son Peter was born on October 12, 1878, in Crossville, Tennessee. Her son Porter was born on March 11, 1880, in Overton, Tennessee. Her daughter Pearl Jessie was born on March 12, 1883, in Overton, Tennessee Her son Alvin (Dock) was born on March 12, 1884, in Tennessee. Her son James Logan was born on May 3, 1886, in Blount, Tennessee. Her daughter Virginia (Jinia) was born on February 2, 1887, in Tennessee. Her son William Virgil was born on August 19, 1890, in Overton, Tennessee Her daughter Bertha Mae (Bertie) was born on May 3, 1893, in Livingston, Tennessee. Her son Edgar was born on February 19, 1895, in Overton, Tennessee.

Her husband Thomas Alexander passed away in 1898 in Overton, Tennessee, at the age of 50. Her father Jacob H. passed away on March 29, 1914, in Pickett, Tennessee, at the age of 80. Her mother Mary Jane Griffin, folks called her Polly passed away in 1904 at Griffin-Holt Cemetery, Burial or Cremation Place Oak Hill, Pickett County, Tennessee
