Biography

Russell was born in 1923 and died in 2012.

• Mr Holt died Thursday, August 16, 2012. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Russell M. Holt Sr. and Clara Tate Holt. He attended the University of South Carolina and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, completing 35 missions over Germany. For his service, he received the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters. He had a career in life insurance for forty years, achieving Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation. He was affiliated with the Sumter Insurance Group until his retirement.

A member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the church choir, he also served as chairman of the Henry Shelor District of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a former member of the Lions Club and was a member and past-president of the Trian Club and the Sumter Civic Chorale.

Surviving are his son, Ken Holt (Nancy) of Columbia; daughter, Melanie Brannon (Barney) of Charlotte; sister, Marjorie Holt Taylor of Columbia; four grandchildren, Claire Holt, Merri Straw, Alan Wright, Holt Warren; two nieces, Meredith Carlen, Betsy Thorne; and one nephew, Lee Taylor.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Jane Kennedy Holt and a daughter, Diane Holt Warren.
