David Joseph Holthoefer was born on August 9, 1905, in Chicago, Illinois, He was the son of Herman Holthoefer age 41 and his mother Mary Weber age 37.[1] He was the 9th child of 12. He was in the family home on both the 1910 US Census, on Prarie Ave,[2] and the 1920 US Census on Paxton Ave, Chicago, Illinois.[3] On the 1920 Census his siblings were Ruth, Amy, Hernine, Lewis, and Betty. His Grandmother Amelia Catherine Emilia (keusch) Holthoefer also lived with them.
David had moved to California by 1930 and was living on Washington St. Los Angeles, working as a Drygoods manager.[4]He then went back to Chicago, where he was living in 1935.
He married Mary Agnes (Shook) Plesetz, (1915-1971), on May 30, 1936 in Chicago Illinois.[5] They had one Daughter and one son.

In 1940, He was a cosmetic Salesman for Tangie, a Cosmetic Company, and they lived at 8023 Peoria St. Chicago.[6] His daughter says that he was quite successfull, and even had an airplane so he could fly to cities within the state and out laying states. When WW II started he went to California to work for the war effort. His wife Mary, and children soon followed him by train. He and Mary both worked for Convair, on radio coil’s for the radio’s that were put into the Air Planes.[7]
He and Mary divorced in abt. 1950. She remarried Walter Plesetz on April 19, 1951, and he adopted the children.
He died on May 3, 1952, in Los Angeles, California,[8] at the age of 46. Cause of Death was Bullet wound to head, suicide. [9] Occupation at time of death Taxi Driver.[10]
